Mycelium. Nature's Quiet Weaver.

Look closely beneath the forest floor and you'll discover one of nature's greatest teachers.

While wandering through the ancient Myrtle Beech forests of Gippsland during cooler seasons, I always find myself completely captivated by the quiet beauty of fungi. Discovering each little colony delights my inner child.

Tiny fruiting bodies emerge after rain, delicate and fleeting, yet beneath them lies something far greater, a hidden network of fine fungal threads known as mycelium.

Often called nature's underground web, mycelium quietly connects forests, recycles nutrients, nurtures new life and helps sustain the health of entire ecosystems.

It is one of nature's most extraordinary examples of reciprocity.

Beneath every thriving forest lies a quiet network of reciprocity. Mycelium reminds us that life flourishes through relationship, not isolation.

The more I have learned about mycelium, the more I recognised a philosophy that deeply resonates with my own practice, one of regeneration, relationship and living in harmony with our natural world.

When creating my Woven Winter Collection – Magical Forest Fungi & Mycelium, I felt called to honour this remarkable living system by incorporating Mylea®, an innovative mycelium leather developed by Melbourne-based social enterprise Fungi Solutions.

Rather than relying on petroleum-based materials or animal leather, Fungi Solutions grows beautiful plant-based alternatives using fungi and agricultural waste that would otherwise end up in landfill.

Their work demonstrates that innovation and nature need not exist separately; instead, they can both inspire and work together in ways that regenerate rather than deplete.

This philosophy beautifully aligns with my heart.

Throughout my work and practices, I explore ways of creating in relationship with Earth, choosing materials thoughtfully, gathering respectfully, and embracing practices that honour the health of our living world. Knowing that Mylea® is created from natural materials and designed to return gently to the Earth at the end of its life reflects a regenerative way of thinking that I hope will continue to shape the future of design and craft.

Alongside beautiful hand-dyed raffia crafted in Melbourne, gathered driftwood from our local coastline, and natural fibres, Mylea® has become another storyteller within my woven work.

Together these materials celebrate both ancient wisdom and emerging possibilities, honouring ancestral craft while embracing innovative natural materials that care for Earth.

Nature has always been my greatest muse.

Through weaving in relationship with nature, I am continually reminded that creativity is not about imposing ourselves upon the world, but about listening, noticing and co-creating in relationship naturally.

Perhaps this is one of mycelium's greatest lessons. The strongest connections are often the ones we cannot see.

It is my hope that my woven creations bring a sense of nature's calming presence, beauty and connection into your home, while gently reminding us of our place within this living world.
