Day 3 - dance with nature's shadows & reflections

Join us for 12 days of immersive and exploratory inspiration for reconnecting ourselves respectfully with the natural world and each other.

Experience the calming, rejuvenating and healing power of being in the present moment surrounded by nature, mindfully aware of yourselves and the world around you, synching back with your natural rhythms, cycles and flow!

When we slow down and allow ourselves to explore beyond the objects themselves as they are, we find a whole new magical world of shadows, reflections, textures both large and intricate!

Sometimes shadows have holes in them which cast patterns of their own, sometimes they dance with the movement of wind, some shadows are cast onto the surface of water which in itself creates new patterns as the water ripples, or be utterly mesmerised by the fluid reflective patters of water as it dances on overhanging tree branches or rocks... There's an enormously fascinating world just waiting for you to explore together!

Activity

Engage your sense of sight to look deeply into nature, beyond the object of tree, rock or water, and guide your awareness towards the shadows, patterns, textures and reflections created by movement of objects or stillness of water.

Find fun ways to creatively and respectfully interact with these;

  • observe and wonder about the way shadows and water reflections move as they are projected against the surface of a rock, ground, tree trunks and other surfaces;

    • what is causing the object or reflection to move?

    • can you use your body to add extra shadows to this nature art?

  • place your hand, face or leg in front of the reflecting surface - how does the shadow change?

  • can you create recognizable shapes such as snimals or faces?

  • place some paper beneath and draw the shadow outlines - colour in for your own piece of art to take home and display

  • find some natural items such as fallen leaves, seasonal flowers, branches, seed pods etc and draw the patterns that these make on the paper

  • dance with your shadow!

I inviate you to video or photograph your experience and share it respectfully with our community. Let's see how many we can gather!

Reconnecting ourselves regularly with the natural world has profound health & wellbeing benefits for our whole body; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

May you enjoy your family adventures and making cherished memories! Share your photos with us on Instagram #12daysofnaturefun and let's cultivate an inspiring collection of respectful nature experiences with our beautiful community!

Respectful play

A loving reminder to enjoy our natural world with a deep sense of reverence/respect;

  • leave no trace (take rubbish away with you)

  • be mindful of plants and animals when leaving a trail to explore

  • leave chemicals/pollutants out of waterways and the environment

  • we share the environment with other living beings to whom it is home, both plant and animal. If collecting natural materials or treasures, do so from the ground and not removed from a living plant - mindful of animals that use the material as shelter
